The bergamot orange (Citrus bergamia) is a fragrant evergreen citrus tree, likely a hybrid of a sour orange and a lemon, grown almost exclusively in Southern Italy for its aromatic essential oil, used in perfumes, teas (like Earl Grey), and aromatherapy. The pear-shaped, yellow-green fruit has a bitter, sour juice and is not typically eaten fresh, but its rind is prized for its oil, while the tree itself is ornamental with glossy leaves and white flowers.
