The Glen Navel is a popular, highly sweet mutation of the Washington Navel orange, discovered in Florida in the 1950s. Prized for its large, seedless segments, easy-peel skin, and high juice content, it is a self-fertile tree that produces fruit ready for harvest between November and January.
Key Characteristics
- Flavor Profile: Exceptionally sweet and rich with an ideal balance of sugars to acids.
- Appearance: Medium-to-large fruit (4–5 inches) with a slightly bumpy, bright orange rind and a distinctive open navel.
- Texture: Tender, segment easily, and completely seedless.
- Harvest Season: Early November through January.
Growing & Care
- Climate & Hardiness: Hardy in USDA Zones 8–11. In colder regions they can be grown in containers and brought indoors during frost.
- Pollination: Self-pollinating; no companion tree is required.
